Women, Mothers, Runners, we share so much and we come together in support of one another in times of need.
As a member of a greater community of Running Mothers, my heart and my prayers go out to the family of Sherry Arnold, 43 year old mother and math teacher from Sidney, Montana who went missing during her early morning run on January 7th.
Across that same community, we also unite to share safety tips on running alone, running in or alongside traffic, or running in dimly lit daylight hours. In April 2010, I wrote Safety on the Streets, following an earlier tragedy involving another Running Mom. I feel that it would be a worthwhile re-read, as we all tend to get a bit too comfortable in our own running neighborhoods, or have gone out without that reflective running gear on.
As well-known voices and figures within our Running Mothers Community, authors Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea shared today, their “Staying Safe” and “Running Safety 101 post with sensible safety reminders that we can all take to heart and put into action as we head out the door for our next run.
Thank you for taking the time to offer your support and prayers for Sherry Arnold and her family and for making your next run safe and sensible so that you can share your stories along the way with us!
