Spring into Running!

by Molly on April 18, 2010

Right now has got to be the most awe inspiring time of year!

In the past I would’ve thought of summer as my favorite season of the year but as a runner, nothing beats the beauty and new opportunities of a budding spring season!

First and foremost, if you are a goal oriented runner, or even a new runner needing a goal to aspire to, there are spring training programs leading up to races almost every weekend now! If you want to find a race in your area, try the Runner’s World  (Races & Places) race finder, where you can type in your location, race distance and date range to find the perfect spring or summer challenge!

This coming Monday is the 114th Boston Marathon, the world’s oldest and most well-renown marathon: the Super Bowl so to speak for runners! Actually, it is second only to the SuperBowl as the largest single day sporting event in the world! Even qualifying for Boston seems like a lofty goal, as this year’s QT for women in my age range is 3 hours 45 minutes – WHEW! However, I will watch with awe and wonder as these remarkable athletes run the 26.2 from Hopkinton to Copley Square setting new records and claiming their own piece of Boston Marathon history.

Well since I won’t be running Boston tomorrow, I can certainly use it as inspiration for my morning run. And pairing that with the simplistic beauty of all the pale green sprouting grass and tiny new buds on the trees, I am already looking forward to my morning miles!
